Taiwan to boost births Taiwan is offering subsidised babysitting in a bid to boost the island's dwindling birth rate, The China Times reported Tuesday. Those who have 3 children, with one aged under 2, will receive a monthly babysitting subsidy of NT$3,000 from next year. From 2012 the "interior ministry" will also give low-income families NT$5,000 per month for each child until it turns 2 in an initiative estimated to cost NT$1.18b a year. Last year 191,310 babies were born in Taiwan, down 3.74% from the previous year. |
